These past two years have proven this is a world where anything can happen. But let’s sit back and appreciate the investing moment at hand.
Right now, the economy is roaring, corporate America is flying high and gains for investors are there for the taking.
In fact, this year, the profits of the 500 stocks comprising the S&P 500 are expected to hit a record $206 billion.
- In 2022, profits are projected to reach $222.3 billion — the largest in history.
To get a piece of those profits, it’s important to know what trends to tap into and when. So for insights, I turned to Weiss Ratings Senior Analyst Sean Brodrick, editor of Wealth Megatrends and Supercycle Investor.
Sean is a commodities expert and often among the first to recognize major resource and tech megatrends that transform the global landscape.
He says the overall health of the market — even with rising inflation — appears robust, setting the stage for a promising new year:
There are forces in the underlying economy that are quite strong … when you look at job creation and when you look at capital expenditure (CapEX) spending, which is soaring right now.
If we have an economic boom in 2022 — and it certainly looks that way — tech is one of the areas that should do really well.
One corner of the market grabbing attention is cybersecurity.
- Forecasts have the global cybersecurity market growing from 218 million dollars today to nearly 345 billion dollars by 2026.
That’s because increasing awareness of cyber threats is leading to larger investments in cybersecurity infrastructure around the world. This year, there were also several high-profile data breaches affecting millions of people.
The manufacturing and utilities sectors were deeply impacted, along with the healthcare sector, financial services and government sectors.
Remember back in May when the Colonial Pipeline was shut down after a successful ransomware attack? It compromised the 5,500-mile pipeline network, which supplies gasoline and other fuel products to eastern states.
A month earlier, a cybersecurity researcher discovered that the personal data of more than 533 million Facebook users had been leaked on a low-level hacking forum.
Those are just two examples.

As the world becomes more dependent on automation — which is another big megatrend that I’m looking at for 2022 — hacking and cybersecurity will become more and more of an issue.
And the problem is, as computers become more complex, they become easier to hack because there are more interdependent systems.
That’s why we’re seeing all these companies spend money on getting a very secure online presence.
They do not want to happen to them, what’s happened to big-name companies in the past. Reputations can be ruined, and companies can be open to all sorts of lawsuits because customers’ user data is picked up off their websites.
So, as an investor, cybersecurity is something you definitely cannot ignore.
