If you are interested in the rating of a specific company as well as the one-page report summarizing the information behind the rating, follow these steps:

Step #1Go to http://weissratings.com/ratings/.  Or go to “Search for a Rating” on the “Ratings & Research” menu.

Step #2If you are not already logged in, you will be asked to log in or register for free.  Once you log in, click “Remember Me” so you can bypass this step the next time you visit us.  And then don’t log out when you’re finished.  Simply close the browser.

Step #3You can search by name, city, state, and asset size.  For insurance companies, you can also search by type of insurance.  You can begin searching right away just by entering something in one of the fields and clicking on the “Search” button.

It is important to remember these tips:

Tip #1.  The names of the banks, credit unions, and insurance companies that we publish are the legal names reported by the companies to their regulators.  These may not always be the exact same names that the companies advertise in TV commercials, on websites, or on their front door.  So if you’re searching for a particular company by name, enter as little of the name as possible to cast a wide net, so to speak.

For example, say you are looking for the rating of Wright Patterson Air Force Base Credit Union in Dayton, Ohio with nearly $2 billion in assets.  If you typed that full name into the search field, you would not find it.  This is because the credit union reports its name to regulators as Wright-Patt CU Inc.  You probably would not know that.  The best approach would be for you to just type the word “Wright” into the search field.  You will get a list of results from which you can choose the one you want, saving yourself a lot of aggravation!

Tip #2.  When you search by state or city, you should be aware that this is the state or city that the company is headquartered in.  You will need to find out where your bank or insurance company is headquartered before doing this search.  You can ask a branch manager or look on their website.
