To identify geographic areas where the health of the banking industry may be improving, Weiss reviewed key indicators of profitability and asset quality—holdings of nonperforming loans as a percentage of total loans and return on average assets (ROAA).
The Southwest region demonstrated the most significant signs of a turnaround while the Southeast fell short.
